Sarah Palin is a joke, a token, and an insult

  • Aug. 29th, 2008 at 12:47 PM
Repulsive.
Hey women, heads up:

Okay, so McCain found a young, MILFy Republican woman to be his VP candidate.

This lady has only been in state politics since 2006. She has never been in national politics. The gulf of experience between her and Barack Obama is much wider than the one between Obama and McCain.

Yes, she's young. But she's too young: she has a four-month-old infant with Down Syndrome. Not that she probably isn't a very strong woman, but I don't like the odds of a person (father or mother) in her situation being ready to step in as President at a moment's notice.

And she's got the trappings of the Old Republican Mindset: she's anti-choice and pro-creation-in-school. What's her position on everything else? Nobody knows--she has no decision-making experience. For all that Republicans wanted to label Barack Obama with "nobody knows where he stands!," she's a hundred times more wildcard.

Don't let McCain think he can dupe women by throwing a former Miss Alaska with almost no political experience at you and going, "Look! Here's a VP with a labia!" Fuck. That. We women are smarter than that.

More: John McCain is a coward.

Editing to add: Apparently the entire internet found this post, which is awesome, but: I'm well over 100 comments now. For this being my personal journal, which tends to be mostly about indie music obsessions and anecdotes about my dog, this is developing scope issues. Future comments are effectively disabled, but I encourage you to visit blogs like http://slog.thestranger.com/ and add to the excellent discourse there.

In 2004, Barack Obama was a rising Democratic star and the Republican senator withdrew due to personal issues.

Who did the Republicans pick? Alan Keyes.

Why did they pick someone who had no experience whatsoever serving in elected office and had never lived in Illinois? Because he was African American.

Affirmative Action, Republicans, doesn't mean selecting someone solely because of their race or gender. UR DOIN IT WRONG.

What a joke
What a pandering decision. who's going to watch the baby? Who is going to take care of our country in these terrible times. She doesn't know jack shit about the constitution. Loved hillary, but this is no hillary. What a bird brain decision. Yuk, yuk ....I am a 53 year old woman and this is an insult. Live in florida and just left the local grocery store, where all the little old ladies in the cheese aisle were talking about it and are equally pissed. They aren't stupid and clearly see this as a pander to them because of Hillary's popularity. They all said the are now for certain going to vote for Obama. She needs to take care of her baby and stay out of OUR Whitehouse.

Completely agree with you
The VP choices of the two candidates show us a lot about their character; Obama chose some who will help him govern, while McCain chose someone who will help him win female votes, ages 40-55.

Embarrassing day for the GOP.

Obama/Biden 2008!

ok new fear: palin draws in the usually apathetic frat boy vote on for her "i'd tap that"ness.

(i can't claim that as my own joke, but god it made me laugh.)

Wow
I'm glad I'm not a Republican. I feel bad for anyone who is. This election is already over. I do not feel comfortable with the idea that she could be in charge of this country at any moment.

McCain just blew it.

Women will not go for this. It's a very bad joke.

I can't imagine this women in the white house. MCCAIN has gone INSANE! My 73 year old parents were going to vote for MCcain until they got this news this morning. McKookball. Obama biden all the way. Hell, I might even donate to the campaign now.

I am terrified in a way I haven't been during this whole election cycle. It's felt so relieving volunteering for the Obama campaign because genuine enthusiasm and belief in the candidate instead of out of fear of the other candidate. It was refreshing. I've never been thrilled about McCain, but I never had a problem accepting the idea that he could be an effective president.

Palin changes things hugely. She's not just conservative; she is a horrifyingly extreme social conservative, with no legislative record to speak of. She's the kind of candidate I have nightmares about.

Sarah Palin is a Joke
I was insulted by the choice. Palin does not have the experience or the education to help lead this county. She has a bachelor's in Journalism, that's a joke in and of itself. They mentioned her PTA experience this morning, what a joke! Being a conservative Christian, why is she not a home taking care of her baby, her special needs baby that is. For someone that seems to know all about the Bible and God's purpose for our lives, doesn't seem to know that she is out of God's order. Her baby was on stage with her for several minutes this morning, she touched all of her children, I never saw her touch or take her baby in her arms. Her daughters should not have to take care of her baby, she should have taken her baby. I have no respect for this woman and now I have no respect for McCain. This is a JOKE! Palin needs to be home with her sick baby son.

Disappointed
I can't believe this is reality! I as a Hillary supporter am offended that there is an assumption that we would be so unwise as to vote for any woman they throw up there just for the sake of keeping us hush and happy. I was considering a vote for McCain had he picked Lieberman, but this woman is a joke! I can't see her in a presidential role. She will not be taken seriously? And Alaska??? Who ever talks about Alaska? I don't identify with this gun toting woman! She is NOOOOOO HILLARY CLINTON and I am deeply offended!

What a horrible stunt the Republican party pulled. This just goes to show that they care only about selfish interests and not the American people. Atleast Obama picked someone who can hop right into the role of Commander in Chief and Obama with his lack of experience atleast has a refreshing vision and judgement!

Thanks McCain you made my decision easy! I will proudly vote Obama!!!

Re: Disappointed
Ok Hillary Clinton is my senator. In 18 months of campaigning Obama has yet to say how he is going to accomplish any let alone all of his list of programs he wants to establish, create, and modify. I was extremely let down when DNC chose a man with no qualifications and no set plan to carry its nomination. McCain has answered all those questions. I work in the Gov't so I'm a bit more aware than the average person as to how the Gov't works. I disagree with his religious policies but other than that he's cut and dry and can explain and defend all of his plans. She is a younger Hillary Clinton who believes in smaller government but a fair voice for the people who has not only seen it but practiced this. and Alaska is the only one of the 50 states that only has to drive 11 miles to enter Russia or have international policy to leave its southern border. It is the only state that Russia can drive into just like they did Georgia. Hillary has represented me well and I will continue to support her in her politics but I can't support a man who can give a good idea but not defend or explain its utilization or implementation. My future rests on these choices and so far only McCain/Palin have any answers. Washington needs to change!!!! and a women who has a blatant record of removing corrupt politicians since 2004 and a team who like Hillary votes on issues and wants a line item veto can change Washington. Obama is not Clinton, Bill or Hillary, and until he can use some content I'm sticking with a team that has both records and can provide educated answers cause life changes and sometimes you need to change a position due to new information especially as the President.

Sarah Palin is a joke
I too googled Sarah Palin is a joke and got this site. Fox News says on talkingpoints.com "well she has experience, Alaska is next to Russia." This is unbelievable. Why isn't she taking care of her children? Doesn't believe in a womans right to choose? How many eons is this bimbo going to set up back. Moose munching beauty queen. A female version of Dick Cheney...watch her with that hunting gun. It makes me want to puke. Oh, and they will play the downs syndrome/pow card ...yuk

Re: Sarah Palin is a joke
That was my search term as well. Maybe McCain is just trying to throw the election to the Democrats. It is surprising and scary how many people don't realize this is his "maverick" joke on us all. If McCain should die in office, he won't have to live with his choice for VP running the country. I now worry that McCain would make similar rash political decisions about bombing other countries and other key moves to furhter destabilize the world peace and economy. Then again, Sarah Palin probably knows as much as McCain about constitutional law, the economy, etc. This move is an insult to women and Hillary...a token woman as a Vice President is not the same as a qualified woman.

I also found this post by googling "palin joke"...figuring SOMEONE out there had to agree with me. Thank goodness I'm not alone in feeling insulted as a woman. Do you think Palin realizes she's being used for her ovaries? Or is she completely clueless? I'm not sure which is worse. Her social ideology scares the hell out of me.

unbelievable!!!
I googled the same thing!!!

I am a mom of 4 who voted for Hillary in the primary and was disappointed she didn't get the nomination. But I would never, never, never vote for any candidate who was so staunchly anti-choice, no matter their gender. She disgusts me in the sense that she has put her political career ahead of her baby's needs. Sarah Palin needs to stay in Alaska and take care of her baby!!!!!!!!

The word around the libertarian blogs is that she is a libertarian leaning republican.
http://libertarianrepublican.blogspot.com/2008/08/libertarian-republican-chosen-for.html
http://www.lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/022578.html

She may have been chosen to attract libertarians or socially tolerant republicans that voted for Ron Paul in the primaries. Ron Paul did get as much as 25% of the votes in some states so this is a significant group to attract. In fact, I'm much more convinced that she was chosen for this reason than the fact that she's female. She was also the likely pick for VP for a Ron Paul ticket. (http://www.dailypaul.com/node/2317)

I'm going to need to find out more of her stance on issues but this could be the highest office that a libertarian candidate has a realistic chance to win in a very long time. This certainly puts McCain back in my list of candidates to possibly vote for though I need to find out more about her.

oh snap
From a diehard neocon on some forums:

"However, having a women near the presidency is almost enough to make me vote for Obama as I think men are better and more natural candidates for national leadership."

McCain manages to alienate diehard woman-haters, and women, AT THE SAME TIME. This is priceless!

you democraps are a joke on humanity... y'all are so scared that McCain go himself a running mate with more experience and brains than your sainted Obambi. Can't wait to see your messiah get his a$$ kicked in November, along with his sleezebag running mate... You accuse McCain of pandering when the entire Democratic ticket is one big, affirmative action pander played on the free world. Obama is no more qualified to lead the free world than my dogs, and at least my dogs don't have delusions of grandeur.

Glad to see a real human being like Palin in the race, especially since she seems to throw all you morons into fits of hysteria. Friggin' hilarous

You are a chump, pal.
One thing's for sure, neither you nor your dogs will have much influence in the free world. Let me guess, you are a guy who doesn't have a pot to piss in who believes its because some other poor person, no better than you, unjustifiably got your "milkshake" in the form of an early education program or food stamps? The Republicans know you'll fall for that one every time and, by the way, those elitist, frat club b&*%$*rds who are draining this country dry wanted me to tell you that your milkshake tastes really really good.

I also googled "sarah palin joke". That's how I found out about this site. McCain's choice is sad for America. It shows that McCain doesn't care about the welfare and progress of the people of this great. This choice is definitely a desperate attempt by the "evil" Republicans to cling to power and continue pushing this great further and further down the drain.
